Installing Minecraft

To install Minecraft, you'll need two things:

1. A Mojang account and Username
2. Minecraft client software

Microsoft Live Account and Username

You'll need a Microsoft Live Xbox account to play Minecraft. Registering for a Live account is free. To register and choose your Minecraft username, visit:

We suggest creating an account especially for your child, rather than them use yours.

Once you have registered with Microsoft and have a username, email that username to pack3807bsa@gmail.com so that we can add it to the approved list.

Minecraft Software

Downloading the Client

There is a one-time cost to purchase the Minecraft client. There are two types for desktops - Bedrock edition (for Windows, Android and consoles) and Java edition, which works across all platforms including MacOS. We strongly recommend the Java version because it is more compatible with Scoutcraft and with Minecraft in general, but you can use either with Scoutcraft. The configuration instructions below are for Java, but Bedrock is fairly similar.

Once you have downloaded the Java client and open it for the first time, you will log in using the Live account you've created.

Configuring the Client

Once you have the client installed and you are logged in with your Live account, you will need to configure the client to connect to the Scoutcraft Server. For instructions on how to do so, see Configuring the Client Software.

Configuring Discord (for voice interaction)

Scoutcraft allows all of online players to interact by voice and chat while in game play.  It’s an important part of the socialization that children receive from Scoutcraft.  Voice chat requires a microphone and headphones or speakers for voice interaction.  Scoutcraft previously used our own private Mumble server, but has recently switched to Discord. We strongly suggest every player use Scoutcraft's gameplay channel while playing. Discord also has additional channels for voice and text chat outside of gameplay, and for server updates. A word of warning: Discord also has channels that may be inappropriate for children, so make sure to only allow them to subscribe to private servers and channels that you know are safe. Scoutcraft's channels are private and safe. Access is by invite only, and only Scoutcraft players and administrators are invited. Abuses of the Scoutcraft Discord server, such as bad language, sexual references or bullying, will result in a permanent Discord ban at administrators' discretion.
